How to convert PDF to JPG
Converting a PDF to JPG turns each page into a picture you can post, paste into a slide, send in a chat or use as a thumbnail. It runs in your browser, so the PDF never leaves your device:
- Add your PDF. Drop it on the box above or choose Select PDF files; you can add up to 50 PDFs at once on the Free plan.
- Choose what to convert: every page, a page range, or only the images inside the PDF.
- Pick the quality. Standard suits screens; High is for printing and zooming in.
- Convert and download. One page gives one JPG; several pages download together as a ZIP, named in page order.
Two ways to convert: pages or images inside
Convert pages (default)
Each page becomes one image, exactly as it looks: text, drawings and photos together. Choose this to share a page, a slide or a certificate as a picture.
Extract images
Only the photos and pictures embedded in the PDF are saved, at their original size, without the page around them. Choose this to get the product photos out of a catalogue or the pictures out of a report. Small decorative images, such as icons, can be skipped with a minimum-size setting.
Which mode should you use?
| You want… | Mode | You get |
|---|---|---|
| A page exactly as it looks | Convert pages | One image per page, text and pictures together |
| The photos from a catalogue or report | Extract images | Each embedded picture as its own file, original size |
| One slide or certificate to share | Convert pages, single page | One JPG, ready for a chat or email |
| Pictures from a scanned document | Convert pages | Scans are one big picture per page, so extracting gives the whole page anyway |
Choosing the right quality
Image size depends on how many pixels are used for each inch of the page. The arithmetic for the two most common page sizes:
| Quality | Pixels per inch | A4 page · US Letter page | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 72 | 595 × 842 px · 612 × 792 px | Thumbnails, quick previews |
| Standard (default) | 150 | 1240 × 1754 px · 1275 × 1650 px | Screens, chats, social posts, slides |
| High | 300 | 2480 × 3508 px · 2550 × 3300 px | Printing, zooming into small print |
Higher quality means bigger files: doubling the pixels per inch makes four times as many pixels. If you’re searching for “PDF to JPG high quality”, choose High, or ask for an exact width such as 2000 pixels.
JPG or PNG?
JPG is the right choice for most pages, especially those with photos: files are small and open everywhere. For pages that are mostly text, lines or diagrams, PNG keeps edges perfectly crisp and avoids the faint smudges JPG can add around letters. See PDF to PNG for when that’s worth the bigger files.
File names, order and long documents
Names that sort correctly
Images are named after your PDF with a padded page number, for example report-page-001.jpg, report-page-002.jpg, so they stay in page order in any folder, even past page 100.
Long PDFs
A 300-page PDF makes 300 images. If you only need some of them, enter a range (“1-10”), a list (“1, 5, 9”) or ask for “every page that has a photo”. For an overview, ask for a contact sheet: several pages shrunk onto one image.
Colours and backgrounds
JPG has no transparency, so empty areas of a page become white. PDFs prepared for professional printing sometimes use print colours (CMYK); they’re converted to screen colours (RGB), and very bright print colours can look slightly different on screen.
PDF to JPG on a phone or computer
The converter works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, with nothing to install. On a phone, a single image can be saved straight to your photos; several pages arrive as a ZIP file, which the Files app on iPhone and most Android file managers can open. On a computer, the ZIP opens with a double-click. You can also keep the images in your Library and use them in a later task, for example to put selected pages back into a PDF.
When people turn PDFs into images
Sharing one page
Send a single page, such as a timetable, a ticket or a menu, as a picture that opens instantly in any chat app.
Slides and documents
Place a PDF page into a presentation or a Word file as an image.
Social media posts
Turn a flyer or an infographic into images for posts and stories.
Website thumbnails
Show a preview of a downloadable PDF. Use Small or Standard quality, then compress the image for fast pages.
Uploads that want images
Some forms accept JPG only. Convert, then size it with compress image to 100 KB if there’s a limit.
Getting pictures out
Use Extract images to save the original photos from a catalogue, brochure or report.
Convert by asking
- “Turn page 3 of this PDF into a JPG.”
- “Convert every page to high-quality images for printing.”
- “Save all the photos from this catalogue.”
- “Make each slide a 1080-pixel-wide image for Instagram.”

Every page accounted for
When converting pages, ToolsMotive checks that the number of images equals the number of pages you chose, so nothing is silently skipped.

Your files are never used to train or improve AI models.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Text in the image looks blurry | Choose High quality, or convert to PNG for text-heavy pages |
| Images are too large to send | Choose Standard, or compress them with Compress image |
| The PDF asks for a password | Enter it when asked; it’s used on your device only. Or remove it with Unlock PDF if you’re allowed to |
| Extract images found nothing | The pictures may be part of a scanned page; use Convert pages instead |
| Too many files to handle | Convert a page range, or combine pages into one tall image by asking for it |
| I need editable text, not a picture | Use PDF to Word instead |
