How to combine images into one PDF

To combine images into PDF form, whether that’s a stack of receipts, the pages of a handwritten assignment or a set of product photos, add them all at once: JPG to PDF and combine happen in one step, and they become one document:

  1. Add all the images together: JPG, PNG, HEIC or WebP, up to 50 in one PDF on the Free plan.
  2. Set the order. Images are listed by file name; drag thumbnails to change it, or ask “sort by date taken”.
  3. Pick a layout: one image per page, two per page or four per page.
  4. Choose one page size (A4 or US Letter) so mixed photos give matching pages.
  5. Combine and check. The result shows the page count and size before you download.

What different layouts give you: worked examples

The number of pages is simple division: images ÷ images per page, rounded up.

JobImagesLayoutPages in the PDF
Monthly expense claim12 receipt photos2 per page, A46
Handwritten assignment9 page photos1 per page, A49
Site visit report appendix30 photos4 per page, Letter8 (the last page has 2)
ID card copy2 (front and back)2 per page1

Getting the order right

With many images, order is the part that takes time. Pick the method that fits your files:

Your filesBest way to order them
Phone photos taken one after anotherAsk to “sort by date taken”; the camera time puts pages in shooting order
Scans named Scan001, Scan002…The default name order is already correct
Files named 1, 2, … 10Names are sorted the way people count, so 10 comes after 9, not after 1
A mix from different sourcesDrag the thumbnails; on a phone, press and hold, then move
Reversed (last page first)Ask to “reverse the order”

One, two or four images per page

One per page

The default. Best for document photos and anything someone needs to read, such as forms, letters and notes.

Two per page

Good for ID cards (front and back), before-and-after photos, or two receipts on one printed sheet.

Four per page

A quick overview: product photos, site visit pictures, or a contact sheet to choose from. Fewer pages to print.

Layouts with more than one image per page use A4 or Letter pages, with each picture scaled to fit its space without stretching.

Mixed shapes and sizes, tidy result

Combined images rarely match: a tall phone photo, a wide screenshot, a square scan. With Fit to image, every page takes the shape of its picture, which is fine for screens but looks uneven when printed. Choosing A4 or Letter gives every page the same size, and Auto orientation turns pages for wide images so nothing is shrunk unnecessarily.

Very small images, such as a thumbnail saved from a website, are shown at their natural size instead of being blown up and blurred. If text in a photo is hard to read, a better source image helps more than any setting.

Keeping a combined PDF light

Photos are placed at full quality, so 30 phone photos can make a large PDF. Three ways to keep it manageable:

  • Set a size target when the file is for email or an upload form; for example 2 MB or 1 MB.
  • Use two or four per page for photos that only need to be seen, not studied.
  • Shrink the photos first with Compress image if you’ll reuse the smaller copies elsewhere.

Combining images with existing PDFs

Got a PDF form plus photos of supporting papers? Add everything to Merge PDF: images are turned into pages and merged with the PDFs in the order you set. Or describe it: “put the form first, then these four photos”.

Describe the document you want

  • “Combine these 15 receipt photos into one PDF, sorted by date, two per page.”
  • “Make one PDF from my assignment photos and keep it under 5 MB.”
  • “Put these product photos four per page on A4 with the file names as captions.”
