How to split PDF pages into separate files
To split PDF pages so that each page becomes its own PDF, select your file above; the tool opens with Every page selected. Choose Split PDF and you get one file per page, each checked and ready to download. Nothing is uploaded.
- Select the PDF. The number of pages tells you exactly how many files you’ll get.
- Keep “Every page”, or switch to Page ranges to keep some pages together.
- Choose Split PDF and download the pages you need.
How the files are named
Each file takes your PDF’s name plus its page number, so a 3-page invoices.pdf becomes invoices-p1.pdf, invoices-p2.pdf and invoices-p3.pdf. That keeps them together in a folder and makes it obvious which page is which. To give pages meaningful names, such as each invoice number, ask in the box under the tool: “split and name each file by the invoice number on the page”.
Separating a scanned batch
Office scanners often put a whole stack of paper into one PDF. If each sheet is a separate document, such as receipts, delivery notes or forms, splitting every page gives you one file per document. If some documents are two pages long (front and back), use Every N pages with 2 instead, or type ranges for the irregular ones, like 1-2, 3, 4-6.
| Your scan contains | Best option |
|---|---|
| One-page documents only | Every page |
| Two-page documents only | Every N pages, N = 2 |
| A mix of lengths | Page ranges, one range per document |
Only need a few pages?
You don’t have to download every page. Split, then download only the files you need, or type just those pages as ranges, for example 3, 8, to create only two files. To create a single PDF containing several scattered pages, extract them as ranges and join them with Merge PDF, or ask for “pages 3 and 8 together in one PDF”.
Sending single pages
- Email and chat: one-page PDFs are small and open instantly on phones.
- Forms that want one document per field: upload each page to its own field.
- Need an image instead? PDF to JPG turns pages into pictures for chats and social posts.
- Size limits: if a single page is still too large (often a high-resolution scan), compress it to 200 KB or whatever the limit is.
Quality and checks
Pages are copied exactly as they are: text stays selectable, images keep their resolution and page sizes don’t change. Each new file is opened again and checked to contain exactly one page, and the results list shows the size of every file. Your original PDF is never changed, and splitting runs in your browser, so the document stays private.
Tidy a scanned batch before splitting
- Remove blank pages left by double-sided scanning with Delete PDF pages, so they don’t become empty files.
- Turn sideways pages upright with Rotate PDF, so every file opens the right way round.
- Check the order: if sheets were fed back to front, fix it first with Organize PDF.
A minute spent here saves renaming and fixing dozens of single-page files afterwards, and it means every file you send is upright, in order and worth opening.
Page numbers in the PDF versus on the paper
The page numbers used for splitting are the PDF’s own order, counting from 1 at the first page. They can differ from the numbers printed on the pages, for example when a report has an unnumbered cover or roman-numbered introduction. If you’re picking specific pages, look at the thumbnails or your PDF reader’s page counter, not the printed number.
Ask for it in a sentence
- “Save every page of this PDF as a separate file.”
- “Split this scan into separate receipts and name them by date.”
- “Every two pages as one file.”
Split PDF pages: questions and answers
How do I save each page of a PDF as a separate file?
Select the PDF above with “Every page” chosen and choose Split PDF. Each page becomes its own file.
How many files will I get?
One per page: a 20-page PDF gives 20 files.
Can I download all pages at once?
In this preview, each file has its own Download link. In the full version, all files can be downloaded together as one ZIP.
Does splitting change the pages?
No. Pages are copied exactly; only the file they’re in changes.
Can I split only some pages?
Yes. Switch to Page ranges and type the pages you want, such as 2, 5-6.
What happens to blank pages?
They become one-page files like any other page. Remove them first with Delete PDF pages if you don’t want them.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
